Screaming Frog is a website crawler you install on your computer: you run it, or schedule it, and it finds what is wrong on your site today. Rabbot is Shopify-native monitoring plus feeds: it watches the store between the crawls, reads your Google Merchant Center and Meta product verdicts, and checks the feed against the live storefront, from $19 a month. SEO apps edit. Feed apps build. Rabbot watches both. A crawler answers "what is wrong now". A watch answers "what broke since yesterday". If you audit whole sites, migrations or sites on any platform, Screaming Frog fits. If you run a Shopify store that sells through Google Shopping or Meta, Rabbot does. The two run side by side.

## What Screaming Frog does

The SEO Spider is a website crawler for Windows, macOS and Linux. Its product page says: "Schedule crawls to run at chosen intervals and auto export crawl data to any location, including Google Sheets. Or automate entirely via command line." (as of 2026-09-29, [SEO Spider page](https://www.screamingfrog.co.uk/seo-spider/)).

The user guide covers scheduling: "You're able to schedule crawls to run automatically within the SEO Spider, as a one-off, or at chosen intervals. This feature can be found under 'File > Scheduling' within the app." Exports need "Headless Mode". It can send "email notifications to be sent once a crawl has completed", though "this does not currently send exports as well" ([user guide](https://www.screamingfrog.co.uk/seo-spider/user-guide/general/)). The user guide does not describe a hosted service that runs while the app is closed. The crawl runs on your machine.

The product page describes Crawl Comparison: "Compare crawl data to identify changes and track technical SEO progress." The user guide's Change Detection tab lists filters for indexability, page titles, meta description, H1, word count, crawl depth, inlinks, structured data types and content that changed by more than 10% ([user guide, tabs](https://www.screamingfrog.co.uk/seo-spider/user-guide/tabs/)). The saved pages describe this as a comparison after a crawl completes, and describe an email that a crawl finished, not an alert on a specific change.

Pricing, from the [pricing page](https://www.screamingfrog.co.uk/seo-spider/pricing/) (as of 2026-09-29): "The Screaming Frog SEO Spider is free, however you can purchase a licence to crawl more than 500 URLs and have access to advanced features." The paid licence is $279 per licence per year (the page has a currency switcher), for one user. Licences last 1 year. Scheduling and Crawl Comparison are rows in the pricing page's feature table. Which of them the free version includes: the pricing page does not make this clear in the saved text.

## What Rabbot does

Rabbot watches whether your live storefront can still sell. It checks [canonical tags, structured data, redirects, noindex, 404s, titles and descriptions, headings and hreflang](/docs/issues/what-counts-as-an-issue/), plus large content changes, the password page and a missing add-to-cart. A store-down heartbeat runs about every 5 minutes ([how checks work](/docs/monitoring/how-rabbot-checks/)). A product update triggers a recheck about 39 seconds after the store event. Paid plans check each page daily, Free at least weekly and as often as daily on pages that keep changing ([check cadence](/docs/monitoring/check-cadence/)).

Nothing needs to be running on your machine. Rabbot sends one alert per problem, and nothing closes until a live recheck confirms the fix ([when an issue closes](/docs/issues/when-an-issue-closes/)). Slack alerts are on paid plans, a weekly digest on every plan. Rabbot asks Shopify for three read scopes and takes no customer or order data.

Plans: Free $0 (20 URLs, no card), Starter $19/mo (1,000 URLs, one feed channel), Growth $39/mo (5,000 URLs, up to three channels), Pro $79/mo (15,000 URLs, all channels).

## Where Screaming Frog is the better pick

Screaming Frog is a full-site crawler and Rabbot is not. It crawls every URL you point it at, exports the data to Google Sheets, and its feature table lists JavaScript rendering, custom extraction and near-duplicate content. Rabbot does none of that: no full-site crawl or export, no keyword rank tracking, no App Store reviews yet, and no platform other than Shopify.

If you are auditing a migration, mapping a large site, or handing a technical audit to a client, use a crawler. It works on any site, on any platform, and 500 URLs are free.

## Where Rabbot is the better pick

A crawl is a snapshot from the day you ran it. Between crawls, a theme update can flip a canonical or an app can add noindex, and nothing tells you until the next run. Rabbot checks on its own schedule, rechecks a product page about 39 seconds after you change it, and alerts once per problem.

### The feed side

A crawler reads the public storefront. A Merchant Center verdict is not published at a public URL. On paid plans Rabbot connects to Google Merchant Center and Meta and notifies you when a product is disapproved or rejected. It also cross-checks your feed against the live storefront every day, price, availability, GTIN, brand and missing data, and flags the mismatch as disapproval risk. Continuous feed monitoring is on paid plans only. TikTok (Beta) catalog diagnostics are read daily on paid plans. The Screaming Frog pages we saved do not mention Shopify, Merchant Center, product feeds or Google Shopping (checked 2026-09-29).

Starter is $19 a month. Free watches 20 pages for as long as you like, no card.

## Can you run both?

![Bar chart of plan prices: Screaming Frog SEO Spider free up to 500 URLs, $279 a year per licence, shown as $23.25 a month; Rabbot free plan, $19, $39, $79 a month; from Screaming Frog's own pages and Rabbot's App Store listing checked 2026-09-29.](/img/compare/rabbot-vs-screaming-frog/2-pricing.png)
Yes. Run the crawler for the deep audit, before a migration or once a quarter. Let Rabbot watch the store in between and read the feeds.

## FAQ

**Does Screaming Frog monitor your site?**
It runs scheduled crawls and compares them, from your machine. The saved pages describe an email when a crawl completes, not an alert on a specific change, and no hosted service that runs while the app is closed.

**Can Screaming Frog crawl a Shopify store?**
Yes, it crawls any public site. Its pages do not mention Shopify, and it has no Shopify integration listed (checked 2026-09-29).

**Is Screaming Frog free?**
The download is free up to 500 URLs. A licence is $279 per year and removes the limit. Whether scheduling is in the free version is not clear in the saved pricing text.

**Does Rabbot replace Screaming Frog?**
No. Rabbot does not crawl your whole site or export the data. It watches a Shopify store between crawls and reads the feed verdicts a crawler cannot see. Other monitoring tools and the SEO apps are compared in the [Shopify SEO apps roundup](/compare/best-shopify-seo-apps/).
