Meta Commerce Manager is the tool where a business creates and manages the product catalog that feeds Facebook and Instagram shopping. A catalog holds your products and their details. Meta's developer documentation says products must be uploaded to a Facebook catalog before people can buy them in a Facebook shop or through Instagram Shopping.

## Why it matters for a Shopify store

Your Shopify products reach Meta through a catalog, normally filled by a feed or a connected app. Commerce Manager is where you create the catalog, see what Meta accepted and see what it did not. A product that Meta does not accept does not appear in shopping surfaces, so the catalog is worth checking after store changes.

For Commerce Manager's screens and review rules, see Meta Business Help.

## What the catalog needs

Meta's catalog field reference lists the required fields:

- id (duplicate ids are ignored)
- title and description (plain text, not HTML)
- availability (in stock or out of stock)
- condition (new, refurbished or used)
- price, written as a number, a space and a three-letter currency code, such as 9.99 USD
- link to a product page on your site
- image link to a JPEG or PNG of at least 500 x 500 pixels
- brand, up to 100 characters

Meta says that if a required field is missing or incorrectly formatted, products may not upload. A GTIN is recommended, not required, and an MPN is recommended when there is no GTIN.

## How it commonly goes wrong

- A required field is blank, or the price is not in Meta's format.
- The image is too small or not a JPEG or PNG.
- Duplicate ids make Meta ignore every instance of that id.
- A made-up GTIN. Meta says to supply one only if you are sure it is correct.
- The catalog drifts from the storefront after a price or stock change.

## Where Rabbot fits

On paid plans, Rabbot connects to Meta (Facebook & Instagram) and notifies you when a product is rejected. It reads Meta's verdicts every day through 4 Meta checks, the same review results you would find in Commerce Manager. The Free plan cannot connect channels. See [the Meta channel](/docs/feeds/meta-channel/).

## Related terms

The catalog is built from a [product feed](/glossary/product-feed/). A [GTIN](/glossary/gtin/) is a recommended attribute. Google's equivalent outcome is a [disapproved product](/glossary/disapproved-product/).
