A disapproved product is an item that Google Merchant Center has decided not to show. Google states it plainly: disapproved products stop showing across Google. The decision applies to that one product, not the whole account.
Why it matters for a Shopify store
A disapproved product loses its place in Shopping ads and free listings until the cause is fixed and Google accepts the fix. Google separates this from a warning, which lets the product keep showing with possibly limited performance. Google also notes that unresolved warnings can lead to disapprovals.
Account-level issues are different. They affect every product, carry a warning period, and unresolved ones lead to suspension.
How it commonly goes wrong
Google says product-level issues come from data that does not match your website, data that breaks the product data specification, or a Shopping policy violation. Causes it lists:
- Placeholder content, broken links or inconsistent information.
- Inaccurate descriptions or mismatched categories.
- robots.txt blocking Googlebot.
- Landing pages that are unavailable, slow, or that redirect to a generic page.
- Price or availability that differs between the feed and the landing page (a preemptive disapproval that needs a review).
- An incorrect or invalid GTIN. Google links separate fix guides for incorrect, invalid, restricted and unsupported GTIN values.
Finding and fixing one
Open the Needs attention tab under Products. You can filter the list and download a CSV. Each issue has a details page with its business impact and steps to resolve it.
Correct the product data and upload it again in a supported format, or fix the landing page. After the fix is live, request a review. Google says a small ad edit or choosing Appeal starts a fresh crawl, which usually finishes in 24 to 48 hours. Google also says some violations need extra verification and review requests may be limited.
Where Rabbot fits
On paid plans, Rabbot connects to Google Merchant Center and notifies you when Google disapproves a product. It reads Google’s verdicts every day, through 6 Google checks, and a disapproval reaches you the same day Rabbot reads it. Rabbot’s own feed cross-check raises price, availability and identifier gaps as disapproval risk before Google reviews them. The Free plan cannot connect channels. See Feed alerts and disapproval risk and the Google channel.
